Divorce does not always go as planned

There are numerous couples in New York who are working toward dissolving their marriages. Unfortunately, the divorce process does not always go as planned. There are things that may occur that can sideline any progress and require couples to put their plans on hold, and that is okay.

While there are a variety of things that can occur that result in divorce plans being stalled, health issues are probably some of the most common. For one woman, problems with her husband's health resulted in her waiting an extra three years before she felt ready to pursue the dissolution of their marriage. Here is her story.

After 20 years of marriage and three children together, this woman came to the realization that the relationship was no longer in her best interest. The couple separated, but they kept in contact. During their separation, her husband became ill, and doctors could not immediately determine what was wrong. After numerous tests, procedures and hospital stays, it was discovered that he had heart failure and his prognosis is uncertain.

His health problems resulted in the divorce being put on hold, which is completely understandable. However, after three years and things beginning to settle down, this woman has decided to get back to taking care of herself and what is best for her family. It is likely that there are multiple couples in New York who may find themselves in similar circumstances as this woman. It is okay to stop and take care of the issue at hand and get back to divorce proceedings when the timing feels right. When prepared to continue this process, one's legal counsel can help in finalizing the divorce as quickly and smoothly as possible.
