June 26, 2000 Larkin, Axelrod, Ingrassia and Tetenbaum, a law firm with offices in Newburgh and Middletown, won a $1.3 million settlement June 13 for Steven Gallo, a Mountaindale resident, who developed a rare nerve condition subsequent to hand surgery stemming after a 1997 car accident. The settlement may be one of the largest in the Sullivan County recent history, according to the firm. In Gallo v. Parlow, 562-98, the court assessed liability for the accident against Richard Parlow, the driver of the car which struck Mr. Gallo's vehicle, but made the plaintiff provide causation before he could collect damages. Plaintiff's doctor, Dr. James O'Connell of the Westchester County Medical Center, explained at trial that Mr. Gallo's accident precipitated complex regional pain syndrome, a condition causing extreme hot and cold pains. The trial, which lasted a week, was before Sullivan Supreme Court Justice Ledina, The jury was in its fifth hour of deliberations when the settlement was reached. The attorney for Mr. Gallo was Elliot S. Tetenbaum of Larkin, Axelrod. Bertram W.
