Goshen- The owner of a nail salon in the Town of Newburgh was acquitted of sexual abuse charges yesterday in Orange County Court.

Tran Hai Thanh, 39, was arrested Nov. 5 by town police after they investigated a complaint by a woman who said Thanh groped her in his Magic Nails salon on Route 52.

After a non-jury trial before Judge Stewart Rosenwasser this month, Tran was acquitted of all four charges against him: first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and three misdemeanors.

Some of his customers wrote letters to local newspapers vouching for his good character, and he’s still in business, said his lawyer, John Ingrassia of Middletown.

“Most of his customers have stood by him,” Ingrassia said, “and he and his wife and his 7-year-old son are obviously very happy that the justice system worked.”
